What is a liquid absorber?

Leaking liquids inside packaging and sealed containers can cause serious moisture damage. Liquid absorbers are used to prevent this. LiquiDry is a particularly effective absorber in pouch form that absorbs aqueous liquids at lightning speed. The innovative technology converts the absorbed liquid into a stable gel. Unlike a type of sponge, LiquiDry does not release any liquid even when pressurised. These properties make ThoMar LiquiDry the ideal solution for effectively preventing moisture damage during packaging, transport and storage.

Versatile application possibilities

LiquiDry was developed to provide reliable protection against moisture damage in a wide variety of areas. Particularly noteworthy are applications in the transport and storage of sensitive products, but also in the transfer and decanting of aqueous-based liquids. The target group covers a wide range of industries, including logistics, electronics and also sensitive areas such as pharmaceuticals, medicine and hygiene. For example, when transporting blood and urine samples, LiquiDry offers a safe and hygienic solution that prevents leaks.

Advantages of liquid absorber bags from ThoMar

The use of LiquiDry offers numerous advantages:

  • Highly efficient absorption: Aqueous-based liquids, such as blood or urine, are quickly and safely absorbed, making cleaning and disposal easier.
  • Prevents moisture damage: Protects products during packaging, transport and storage.
  • Hygienic and safe: self-dissolving bag made of water-soluble paper.
  • Made in Germany: The sachets are produced at the site in northern Germany - for short delivery routes and the highest quality standards in accordance with ISO 9001.

Available bag sizes and specific applications

LiquiDry is available in three grammages that have been developed for different requirements:

  • 0.5 g: For small sample containers and sensitive individual packaging.
  • 1.5 g: Suitable for standard samples or smaller transport containers.
  • 5 g: For larger quantities of liquids or industrial applications.

Special bag sizes and customisation to individual customer requirements are also available on request.

How LiquiDry works

LiquiDry uses a highly effective superabsorbent granulate (sodium polyacrylate) - also known as a water blocker - which effectively absorbs and binds aqueous liquids. The bag is made of water-soluble paper that dissolves on contact with liquid so that the granules can act directly.

The process is based on the chemical structure of the superabsorbent granulate sodium polyacrylate, which converts liquids into a stable hydrogel through swelling. The polymer chains bind water molecules efficiently by exchanging sodium ions and expanding into a three-dimensional network. This creates a gel that does not release any liquid, even under pressure, and can absorb up to 250 times its own weight in water. With distilled water, the absorption capacity can reach this maximum factor of its own weight, while with a 0.9 per cent saline solution it can reach 60 times.

Application examples: Liquid absorbers in practice

LiquiDry is used in many industries:

  • Logistics: Safe transport of products that are sensitive to moisture.
  • Electronics: Protection of sensitive components from moisture damage.
  • Medicine: Transport and storage of medical samples such as blood and urine to prevent leakage and contamination.
  • Pharma: Protecting sensitive pharmaceuticals against moisture damage.
